In the Post Brexit world, individuals with a British Passport, who wish to reside in Spain can only stay for a maximum of 180 days per year. These rules are laid down by the E.U. However, many Brits want to spend over 180 days in Spain. There are many reasons for doing so. Whether it is the attraction of over 300 days of sunshine, purchasing a home, renting long term, or just to enjoy the food, lifestyle and weather.
Whatever your reason, a Visa is required. The Non-Lucrative Visa is a route for those that are retired/semi-retired, provided their only source of income is from pensions, investments, rental property, passive income e.g. dividends from a company/companies or a combination of all four, that allows you to stay in Spain with no restriction. The inital period is 1 year. After the first year the Visa can be renewed for a further 2 years and renewed after 2 years for a further 5 years. Although this is all subject to change by the Spanish Government at any time!
